CURRICULUM
At Fusion MMA the curriculum is ever changing and growing. In the search for truth in combat, principles of mixed martial arts are studied and tested through alive training and physical application. From instructors to students, ideas, concepts and techniques are shared and taught in an open environment that is free from the rigid restrictions and politics of classical martial arts training.
Techniques that are covered are broken down into 3 ranges (distance) of application. LONG RANGE OR STANDUP techniques are generally comprised of western boxing, and various Muay Thai and Jun Fan kickboxing techniques. MEDIUM RANGE OR CLINCH techniques are comprised of attached striking techniques using the elbows and knees, control positions found in wrestling and Muay Thai, and takedown techniques from wrestling, Judo, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. SHORT RANGE OR GROUND techniques are primarily comprised of techniques taken from submission grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and wrestling. CLASS DESCRIPTIONS INTRO TO MMA: This class is designed with the complete novice in mind. People that are completely out of shape and have not exercised in over a year or more are best suited to begin training on this level. Students will perform a base level set of a select group of exercises that will allow their muscles and cardio vascular system to acclimate to the gyms rigorous demands. Students will also learn the beginning stages of all three ranges of technique application. This class is intended for individuals who have limited to no experience in martial arts, boxing or wrestling. The class focus is centered on two things. One, introducing the student to the Fusion MMA training curriculum in all three ranges, and stepping up the gym’s cardio/fitness aspects to the student. Students spar on a limited basis. This class can last anywhere from 3-6 months, depending on the individual, and is offered 5 times per week. This class is intended for both, individuals who come with experience in training backgrounds that better suit the person for advanced level training, and also the Level 1 students who are ready to take their training to the next level. Technique training is drilled with fundamentals already intact and the class is much more physically demanding than Level 1. Sparring is done on a regular basis with greater emphasis placed on the total curriculum. This class is offered up to five times per week. SPARRING Participants do not spar or alive train at 100%. It is not necessary to inflict injury and hurt your fellow participants in order to learn from your alive training. We only strive to functionalize the techniques we train and examine. Participants who wish to train at harder more intense levels, may do so at competitions and with other willing participants. All forms of sparring or alive training are at the strict discretion of the instructors and staff of Fusion MMA. CONDITIONING Any athlete who truly cares about their growth and success in their respective sport will attest to the need for proper physical conditioning. Martial arts training should be no exception. Have you ever looked at an overweight police officer or security guard and thought to yourself, now that person sure wouldn't instill a sense of comfort and safety if my life was in danger. The same thoughts or feelings should be felt as regards your martial arts training. If you are overweight and out of shape, you can't realistically expect to be able to defend yourself with any degree of success. You are only as good as your body will permit you to be. |
